Two labels in the same size, a child who fits one and swims in the other. That's the everyday problem with European kids clothes, and it isn't the brands being sloppy. They measure different things. Some print the child's height in centimeters. Some print an age. One Spanish label writes 3A on the tag and means three years. This page puts the labels we carry in one table so you can read the tags we ship.

The one rule that covers every label
European cuts run slim. A child who is between two sizes takes the larger one. A child who is exactly at the top of a size takes the larger one too. That rule is on our size guide and it's the first thing we say when someone emails about a size.
The second rule: the number on a European tag is the height of the tallest child the piece fits. A 98 fits a child up to 98 centimeters, roughly three years old. It's never the length of the garment.

Coats and jackets are the one place where "the size the child is" needs a second look, because they go over a knit. That has its own page: should you size up a kids coat for autumn.
Shoes work on a different scale. Cienta and Aladino are Spanish, Shoo Pom is French, and between them they cover EU 20 to 33. The EU to US shoe size guide has the full chart with foot length in centimeters, and the shoe shelf shows what is on hand.
Reading a tag you don't see in the table
Three questions sort out almost any European kids tag.
Is the number over 40 on a clothing tag? Then it's height in centimeters. On a hat it's head circumference, on a shoe it's an EU shoe size, and both are covered further down. For clothes, give or take a few months, 92 is two years, 98 is three, 104 is four, 110 is five, 116 is six, 122 to 128 is seven to eight. The full mapping with chest and waist is on the size guide.
Is there a letter after the number? Y is years. M is months. A is años or ans, years in Spanish and French. T on an American tag is toddler, so 4T is four years with a roomier cut for a diaper.
Two numbers with a dash, like 6-7Y? The piece covers both years. Check where your child's height sits in that band on the size guide.
Where the tag and our listing disagree
Every listing on this site shows the size exactly as printed on the physical tag, in the size selector. Where a brand prints centimeters, the size guide gives the month or year it maps to, so a 68 reads as 6 to 9 months. Where a brand prints an age, the listing shows that age. If the number on the tag and the age in the title ever seem to disagree, the tag is right and we want to know about it.
When the table isn't enough
Measure the child, not the age. Height for clothes, foot length for shoes. Write to us with the height and the piece you're looking at, and we'll put a tape on the actual garment, shoulder to hem and across the chest, before you order. With return shipping on you, that email is the cheaper way to get the size right.
