European brands print a height in centimeters on the label, and that number is the tallest child the garment fits. A label that says 98 fits a child up to 98 cm tall, which is about 3 years old. Imps and Elfs, MarMar Copenhagen, Soft Gallery and Konges Slojd size by height in centimetres, the European way. A 68 fits a child up to 68 cm tall. A 92 fits up to 92 cm. Measure your child standing against a wall, then take the next size up.

Tocoto Vintage sizes by age: 6M, 12M, 2Y, 3Y. The cut is slim. A tall two-year-old usually needs the 3Y.

Aimama labels age and height together, for example 100cm/3years. Go by the height, not the age.

Aladino and Cienta shoes come in EU sizes. The Cienta and Shoo Pom charts below turn EU into US and into foot length in cm.

A high waisted skirt in blue and purple stripes, 100 percent cotton, ruffled at the hem. Sizes run 6 to 16 years, so it's a long stretch of growing covered by one skirt. Cotton breathes, so it doesn't cling on a warm afternoon. You'll wear it with a plain tee one day and a proper blouse the next. Machine wash.
